Longitudes (meridians) and latitudes (parallels) on earth

One of the coordinate systems.
The ecliptic system is used to to calculate and locate the position of celestial bodies in the solar system.

The plane of the ecliptic, i.e. the Sun's apparent orbit around the Earth, represents the base level.
The given coordinates are the ecliptic longitude - which is the number of degrees that can be found in an ephemeris, and the ecliptic latitude.
The latter describes the distance to the ecliptic along a circle of longitude that is vertical to the ecliptic.
