The zodiac's masculine pole (red and orange signs).

Taken together with feminine, "masculine" forms one of the complementary pairs of terms used to express the underlying polarity.

Masculine energy stands for the dynamic, forward-striving principle which creates new things, for extroverted energy that gives expression to a particular action. An overemphasis of this energy can lead to war and destruction. Masculine and feminine energies are complementary and have a mutual influence on each other - the one without the other is unthinkable.

The fire signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius and the air signs Gemini, Libra and Aquarius are considered to embody different facets of the masculine principle; among the classical planets the Sun, Mars and Jupiter embody the masculine principle.

The masculine principle is not only represented by male figures. One of the greatest challenges facing every individual, whether male or female, is to integrate both the masculine and feminine sides of their personality. The natal chart indicates in which areas of life either the masculine or feminine traits are likely to be expressed.
