A celestial body orbiting a planet. Typically called a moon or natural satellite, the earth's moon is the only one in our solar system to have astrological significance.
Astronomy
In our solar system Mercury and Venus are the only planets to have no satellites.
- The major satellite of the earth is our moon
- Mars has two moons: Phobos and Deimos
- Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune have several satellites; the biggest known satellite of our solar system is Titan, a satellite of Saturn
- Pluto, Haumea and Eris are the only Dwarf Planets to have satellites; Charon is one of five known satellites of Pluto[2]
Astrology
The only satellite to have astrological relevance is the earth's moon because in the geocentric perspective of astrology the moon is the most visible satellite. The other satellites of our solar system are all very near to the planet they orbit, as they are seen from the earth; and do not seem to have an effect different from their planets.
The moon is also counted as a planet and one of the Luminaries in astrological terminology.
